Rory's : A brief history

About thirty years go, Rory's began as a simple establishment that served Darien, Connecticut with bar food, cold brew and a congenial atmosphere. It was an unpretentious joint where a weary day-worker could grab a burger and enjoy an adult beverage in the company of other like-minded folks, mostly commuters from the City.

Times have changed, commuters nowadays telecommute from home and the suburbs that used to end at Rory's front door was now extend well past New Haven. For the folks who do commute now find that 95 is pretty much a parking lot anytime you need to use it.

So, times are tougher than they were, not so simple, but the mission of Rory's hasn't been affected by the passage of time. It's still just a place to enjoy a burger and a drink with friends.

What has gotten better, according to all those online reviews and the regulars who frequent the place, is the food. Rory's has acquired the reputation of having the best bar food in Connecticut and possibly the best on the entire East Coast.

To make the food even tastier, the bar has added an extensive wine list, both by the glass and the bottle. The selection of beers has grown to include all the favorites and a whole BUNCH of speciality and boutique brews from Massachusetts and Delaware and other such beery oasis.

There's also live music on Wednesday nights and the occasional wine dinner hosted by amazing little wineries from both coasts and boutique distributors from all over.

But despite all that, Rory's is still an unprentious little joint that serves burgers and brew and, oh, on Tuesday and Fridays, we have the BEST Lobster Bisque in the United States.
